If you have been reading the international papers lately, you will have noticed that Ehthiopia is facing drought and famine. This, combined with an evergrowing AIDS threat places great pressure and stress on the people we are holding up before the Lord. Please continue to lift the Tigrai up.
For some good news, I am happy to report that one on this distribution list will be going to Ethiopia this week to assist in the English language training program. We've prayed for thse ESL classes before, now we will have one there to see firsthand what the Lord is doing. I will ask our brother to give us a report when he gets back. Pray for Andy while he is in country!!
The note below in from our friend in Ethiopia, let's lift her (and the other missionaries in the region) up for safety and peace.
"The effects of the famine are really beginning to show in some parts of the country. Here there is some evidence but the relief organizations are trying to get to the villages and remote areas with the food so the people will not be dislocated by traveling to big towns in search of food.
We have received word from the American Embassy that terrorists have said they were going to target Americans working for relief organizations involved in the famine relief work. We have been advised to lay low, not gather in customary places and not to venture out into the countryside. We are taking care to follow their advice but are not unduly concerned. We have been exercising caution for some time.
Here in Mekele things on the surface are rather peaceful. We know that there is unrest among the orthodox and the Ethiopian protestants but so far that has not affected us.
We are meeting this morning to pray about the famine and the religious unrest."
