Confusion about Invitation November 23, 2002
Dear Andy,
My name is Chris Plante. I am the Director of the Mekelle Youth Center, a joint development project between SIM (Serving in Mission), the Tigrai Region Youth and Sports Bureau, and the Tigrai Region Bureau of Social Affairs and Rehabilitation.
We are in the very early stages of beginning a four-faceted project which will include Health Education (HIV/AIDS, STIs, Reproductive Health, Child Care Education), General Education (English Teaching, Tutoring, Examination Prep, Library/Reading Room), Computer Training, and Sport/Recreation Training.
I understand through another organization that you have a ticket to come to Ethiopia for a few weeks and are interested in teaching English. We are interested in talking to you about joining us in Mekelle to teach English in the Youth Center context and under the direction of the above mentioned partners. It is my understanding that the group you initially contacted does not have a place for you at this time, and that you are not officially attached to that group. PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR STATUS IN RELATION TO THE XXXX MISSION PROGRAM.
If you are interested in coming under our umbrella and teaching English in the Youth Center please contact me with your dates of arrival and departure, a brief outline of your qualifications, and a paragraph or two describing why you want to come and your approach to teaching English to young people.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL INVITATION AT THIS TIME. However, as you have your ticket I wanted to let you know that it may not have to go to waste. I have copied my supervisors in Addis Ababa and will discuss your situation, and, with consideration of material you send me, decide whether to move forward.
Let me know what you think.
Together in His service,
Chris Plante
